The Lares Trek is one of the main alternative treks to take, if you want to go to Machu Picchu. The starting point lies 64 km away from Cusco and 56 km from Machu Picchu, and starts at the Lares hot springs. Compared to the Inca Trail, Lares Trek is shorter and is higher in altitude. The trek will take you through hot springs, small native villages, lagoons, and parts of an Inca Trail, the amazing Huaqahuasi Mountain pass and flora and fauna like llamas and alpacas and very picturesque landscapes of flowers.
