The Lares trek begins in the village of Lares located at an altitude of 3226 m, it rises to 15174 feet, then follows the descent back to the Sacred Valley. Machu Picchu is at 7,972 feet.
Some people may be affected by altitude sickness, but this is not a big problem for this walk, for most people is enough acclimatized, although there are also medications to relieve symptoms.
